Program Description

The mission of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is to enhance the health and well-being of all Americans, by providing for effective health and human services and by fostering sound, sustained advances in the sciences underlying medicine, public health, and social services.

DHHS provides a range of services for citizens that help ensure their well-being, dignity and choice. Such services create opportunities for people to live independently in their own homes, provide access to meals at home or group setting, assisted liven, daytime programs, nursing home and more.

Federal and state programs pay benefits, pay health care costs or provide food, such as Medicaid, Medicare, Social Security, Food Stamps, Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF). Being an eligibility-based system, it is important for interpreters to understand the intrinsic aspects of it, in order to effectively interpret in such critical situations.

Objectives

During this program, you will learn about:

• How the US Department of Health and Human Services is structured.
• The different Medicaid and CHIP plans.
• The Medicaid eligibility process for applicants.
• Medicaid services, Waiver Programs, “Spenddown” and coverage for Medically Needy
• applicants.
• How Managed Care Organizations work with Medicaid.
• Medicaid Grievance and Appeal Process
• Medicare eligibility process, benefits and services
• Medicare advantage programs
• Programs such as TANF, SNAP and other DSS programs
• English-Spanish related terminology.

About the Instructor

Program Cost

The cost per participant is $250 per person. The participant gets fully registered with a 50 % down payment, followed by four (4) easy payments of $30.00 each. Corporations pay $2,500, the total price for a minimum of 10 participants.
